Forging operation

Forming metals under pressure and or in molten mode by meanse of frame and hydraulic presses, pneumatic and or Sledgehammer blow is called forge. Many of important parts in automotive industry, machine making and army industry are manufactured by use of forge method. The operation of forge is discontinued and forged parts is highly strengthen as having the possibility of controlling material flow , structure grading and also compression of raw material. Most of the ductile metals like steels, copper alloy and aluminum have the ability of forge operation.

Forge operation can be devided into cold and warm modes. Cold forge can be done at the ambient temperature and with excessive force on the parts having high ductile ability. Warm forge can be done in high temperature (more than re-crystallization temperature of material) and with less force. Material has more uniformity and plasticity in this method.
Forge operation can be classified based on the fact that metal is poisoned by frame at the same time of transformation from “partly” to “all aspects” as follows:

  • Forging with open frame
  • Forging with closed frame
